Prince takes a swipe at Madonna during London show

Prince took a swipe at Madonna during his gig tonight (August 1) at the O2 Stadium in London.

The show was the first of the 21 nights of the hits tour he will play at the former Millennium Dome.

Before playing 'Black Sweat' he announced: "I got so many hits y'all can't handle me. I got more hits than Madonna's got kids."

During the stunning show his band, with vocalist Shelby J taking lead, did a version of 'Crazy' by Gnarls Barkley.

The show began with 'Purple Rain' which saw his dancers Twinz dressed in shocking pink and waving purple flags around the stage which was shaped like his trademark symbol.

Prince told the crowd: "London I am here...Did you miss me?"

During 'Musicality' members of the crowd got up stage. After the song finished he said: "How did you like the stage? I just got it. It's sexy right? We're playing real music- there are no loops.

"I didn't sleep last night...I was just so excited to come here tonight."

The stunning show reached its emotional climax when he came back onstage for a third encore, walking through the crowd to get there surrounded by several bodyguards.

Accompanied only by an electrical guitar he played a stop-start version of 'Little Red Corvette', 'Raspberry Beret' and 'Sometimes It Snows In April'.
Topman NME New Music Tour kicks off in Cardiff

Cardiff played host to the very first night of the Topman NME New Music Tour tonight.

The gig, featuring four of our favourite rising stars, injected a touch of glamour into the austere surroundings of Cardiff's historic Corn Exchange.

Headliners The Rumble Strips performed a forty-minute set, featuring their trademark horns and harmonies, to a crowd singing back every line, despite the band not having yet released an album.

The audience were highly vocal in their appreciation for songs including 'Motorcycle', 'Creole' and 'London', and frontman Charlie Waller was visibly delighted with the reaction.

Earlier in the evening, Pull Tiger Tail energetically pumped out their electro-indie tunes, such as 'Hurricanes' and opener 'Mr. 100%', despite being jokingly heckled by Steven Ansell of Blood Red Shoes.

The band, adorned in pink paper hearts, even introduced 'I Call It IT' with a cry of "eins, zwei, drei, tanzen", in tribute to Austria's recent Eurovision entry.

Before Pull Tiger Tail's performance, Californian quirk-pop troupe The Little Ones brought their instrument-swapping, percussion-laden show to Wales for the very first time.

The five-piece got most of the crowd dancing to their melodic and upbeat tunes, including single 'Lovers Who Uncover', with singer Edward Reyes even promising he'd join in if the crowd started breakdancing: "Now is your time to freak out! I want to see some breakdancing, I'll come down there with you if you do!"

Blood Red Shoes were the first band to take to the stage, with Laura-Mary Carter sporting a brand new Telecaster and drummer Steven Ansell entering with flaming drumsticks held aloft.

Launching straight into new song 'I Wish I Was Someone Better', the Brighton duo swiftly warmed up the initially reserved crowd of early birds with their garage-grunge.

Commenting on the wood panelling of the Corn Exchange, Steven told the crowd: "It looks like we're playing in the Houses Of Parliament, but we can still have a good time!"
